VN-100 Rugged IMU/AHRS
The VN-100 is a miniature, high-performance Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and Attitude Heading Reference System (AHRS). Incorporating the latest MEMS sensor technology, the VN-100 combines 3-axis accelerometers, 3-axis gyros, 3-axis magnetometers, a barometric pressure sensor and a 32-bit processor.
Along with providing calibrated sensor measurements, the VN-100 also computes and outputs a real-time 3D orientation solution that is continuous over the complete 360 degrees of motion.
Incorporating the same suite of advanced MEMS sensor technologies as the VN-100 Rugged is encased in a precision anodized aluminum enclosure that allows for easy application integration and provides protection from board stresses and hazards due to harsh environmental conditions. With a size of only 1.3 x 1.4 x 0.35 in. and a weight of 153 grams, the VN-100 Rugged is one of the smallest commercially available industrial grade IMU/AHRS.
In addition to providing calibrated sensor measurements, VN-100 Rugged computes and outputs real-time, drift-free 3D orientation over the complete 360 degrees of motion. The VN-100 Rugged has a built-in microprocessor that runs an onboard extended Kalman filter at 2400 Hz, providing estimates of both attitude and the real-time gyro drift bias. Communication with the VN-100 Rugged is possible using the serial 3V TTL (UART) via a custom RS-232 or USB cable.
The VN-100 Rugged can be used in a wide variety of industrial and military applications and is well suited for size, weight, power and cost (SWAP-C) constrained applications such as UAVs and other unmanned vehicle systems, camera and platform stabilization, guided munitions, heavy machinery monitoring, robotics, primary or secondary flight navigation, flight simulation, and augmented/virtual reality platforms among others.
The VN-100 Rugged is the “plug and play” version of the VN-100 SMD. Enclosed in a clam shell precision anodized aluminum enclosure, the VN-100 Rugged offers additional protection of the internal MEMs sensors and electronics. The use of precision CNC milled aluminum parts ensures that the axis alignment provided by our factory calibration process is maintained during installation in its final configuration. Interfacing with the module is made through a locking 10-pin connector.
